Kalevala, Finnish national epic compiled from old Finnish ballads, lyrical songs, and incantations that were a part of Finnish oral tradition. The Kalevala was compiled by Elias Lönnrot, who published the folk material in two editions (32 cantos, 1835; enlarged into 50 cantos, 1849).

Калевала (Kalevala) was established in spring 2007, after Ksenia and Nikita left Невидь. The name Kalevala was chosen because of Ksenia’s Finnish heritage, the songs being influenced by Finnish folklore and bands such as Korpiklaani and Finntroll, as well as former band member Bumblebee having a T-shirt with “Kalevala" printed on it.
